ASK THE EXPERTS

Penalty kick gets by Tigers

POSTED: March 6, 2012 4:51 p.m.

The Dawson County varsity boys soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Lumpkin County last Tuesday at Tigers Stadium.

Tied 1-1 at halftime, the Tigers were called for a foul with just 52 seconds remaining that led to an Indian penalty kick that allowed Lumpkin a 2-1 victory.

With the loss the team fell to 2-3 overall.

Brandon Lund opened the scoring in the first half for the Tigers at the 15:19 mark off of an assist from Sam Wentworth.

Lumpkin answered with a goal at 10:12 on a ball that got away from Tiger keeper Brooks Fulford and tied the score at 1-1.

"It was not a pretty game," said coach Jed Lacey. "We are really struggling right now but we will be OK. After we lost Jose Miranda, who is the engine that makes the offense go, for the season with a knee injury, we are trying to find ourselves offensively.

"We lost a heart breaking game to our neighbors next door, but that might be what the doctor ordered. They took this game pretty hard and especially how we lost it," he added.

The Tigers played their first region game March 6 at home against Fannin County.

Scores were unavailable at press time.
