The Dawson County varsity girls soccer team won both games last week against White County 1-0 and North Hall 4-0.

Dawson jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead against visiting White County. Riley Cox blasted the ball by the Lady Warriors' goalie on an assist by McKay Shively with only 8 minutes gone in the game.

The Lady Tigers held on as freshman goalie Anela Melton picked up her second shutout of the year.

"We got on the board quickly and that set the tone for the rest of the game. We kept the ball on their side all night. They really only had one scoring opportunity and goal keeper Anela Melton came up with a huge save," said Head Coach Jed Lacey.

White County (1-3) had a great scoring chance, but Melton came off her line and made a great block.

The Lady Warriors got the next three rebounds, but defenders Emily Stowers, Anna Hawkins and Morgan Huber went in behind Melton to clear the ball.

On Friday, Dawson played host to Class AAA school North Hall.

The Lady Tigers opened the scoring on a goal by Brittany Duffy with 3:16 left before halftime on a feed from Taylor Bennett.

Dawson took a slim 1-0 lead into the locker room.

Duffy finished with a hat trick. She scored two more goals in the second half.

Stowers also added a goal, which gave Dawson the big 4-0 win.

Stowers' goal came on a penalty kick.

Melton once again came up strong in goal and picked up her third shutout of the season.

"What a great win. These girls just keep getting better and better. We still have work to do, but they are coming together as a team. Each game a different player steps up it seems. Freshman Anela Melton got her third shutout of the season. She is playing great," Lacey said.

With the two victories the Lady Tigers stand at 3-1 overall.

The team will play at 5 p.m. Friday in Toccoa against Class AAA Stephens County.
