Turnovers and poor free throw shooting led to the demise of the Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team Tuesday, Nov. 25.

The Lady Tigers were defeated by a strong North Forsyth team by a 61-38 score.

With the loss to the Lady Raiders, Dawson fell to 1-1 overall.

The team traveled to Tallulah Falls last night for a rematch with the Lady Indians.

Scores were not available as of press time.

With the win, North Forsyth moved to 1-0 on the season.

Dawson’s defense was also a weakness against the smaller and quicker North Forsyth team.

“Our performance defensively was not very good,” said head coach Steve Sweat. “We just couldn’t get a stop when we needed one.”

“Our free throw percentage was not good and we had too many unforced turnovers,” commented Sweat.

“The girls never quit. We got it down to 10 points in the third quarter, but we could never get the game back in single digits,” he added.

Dawson was only 9 for 22 (41 percent) from the charity stripe during the game.

Judith Hall and Cheyenne Bennett each contributed 11 points, to lead the Lady Tigers in scoring.

Callan Bennett led the Lady Raiders with a game-high 17 points.

The Lady Tigers were down by 13 points at halftime, 37-24.

“I felt, if we could get some stops, that we still had a chance. But in the second half we just couldn’t get going offensively,” Sweat said.

Despite cutting the lead to 10 points at 39-29, the Lady Tigers were unable to get any closer. North Forsyth extended its lead to 47-32 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Tigers will be back at home this Friday. The team will play host to a strong Gilmer County team.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
