Wrestlers off to state sectionals

Dawson County placed four wrestlers in the state sectionals after last weekend's action in Elbert County.

Heading to the sectionals, which will be held at Dublin High School, are Preston Adams (160 pounds) and Evan Kells (182 pounds) who both placed second.

Also advancing are Keaton Toal (220 pounds) and Cory Jenkins (130 pounds) who both finished in fourth place in their divisions.

The Tigers finished in fifth place as a team.

Jefferson dominated the event in Area 8-AA. The Dragons came away with 10 area champions and three runners-up. All 13 Jefferson wrestlers advanced to sectionals. The Dragons racked up 329.5 points.

Banks County finished second in the tournament and placed 11 wrestlers in the top-four.

Only the top four wrestlers in each weight class can compete in the sectionals.

The Leopards accumulated 220 points.

Elbert County finished third with 204 points.

Jackson County came in fourth place in the event.
