Defense tires ladies team

It was a tough week for the Dawson County Lady Tigers varsity basketball team. The Lady Tigers lost to two quality teams.

The team lost 45-38 against Fannin County in Blue Ridge before falling 75-53 to Class AA No. 10 ranked Rabun County on Friday night in Tiger.

Dawson is 10-13 overall and is 1-8 in Region 8A-AA.

The Lady Tigers fell behind 12-8 after one quarter of play at Fannin and trailed only 20-17 at intermission.

Fannin's man defense bothered Dawson County all evening.

The Lady Tigers scored single digits in the first three quarters to trail 28-24.

Both offenses were on fire in the final quarter.

The Lady Rebels outscored Dawson 17-14 over the final 8 minutes to pull out the win.

Carly Gilreath led Dawson County in scoring with 12 points. Kim Wallace had a big game on defense with four steals.

The Lady Tigers were led in rebounding by Kenna Seitz and Ashley Parker with five rebounds apiece.

Lady Tigers scorers: Gilreath-12 points, Sheyenne Seabolt-8 points, Wallace-4 points, Morgan Huber-3 points, Kacie Bearden-3 points, Hannah Porter-3 points, Seitz-2 points, Parker-2 points and Allie Costley-1 point.

Rabun County (20-3) scored 40 first half points in an offensive barrage against the Lady Tigers on Friday night in Tiger.

The Lady Tigers answered with 30 points in the first half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a very good Rabun County team.

The third quarter put the game away for Rabun. The Lady Wildcats outscore the visiting Lady Tigers 24-11 and held a 23 point lead at 64-41 as the buzzer sounded.

Gilreath and Wallace each scored in double figures with 19 and 10 points respectively.

Wallace also had four rebounds in the game.

Costley and Seitz had seven rebounds each in the loss.

Lady Tigers scorers: Gilreath-19 points, Wallace-10 points, Huber-7 points, Bearden-6 points, Seabolt-4 points, Costley-4 points and Seitz-3 points.

Dawson County has two regular season games left against Union County today and Banks County on Friday. Both games will be at home.

Today's game will start at 6 p.m. and Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m.

Friday will also be Senior Night for the Lady Tigers.
