Lady Eagles heating up

POSTED: January 17, 2012 5:12 p.m.

The Riverview Middle School eighth grade Lady Eagles are getting hot at just the right time of year. With the Mountain League Tournament just around the corner coach Rhonda Sillesky's team pulled off two big wins last week.

Riverview defeated Lumpkin County, 36-17, and Clear Creek, 33-30 to move the team's record to 4-4 on the season.

Emily Queen was the team's high scorer against Lumpkin with 10 points.

"We are cutting down on our turnovers, playing strong defense and rebounding. These were key factors in our win," Sillesky said.

Lady Eagles scorers: Queen - 10 points, Eliza Sillesky - 9 points, Tabitha Morrison - 8 points, Ashton Abbott - 7 points and Savanna Skinner - 2 points.

Against Clear Creek, the Lady Eagles played with a lot of heart and determination to pull out the close win.

Abbott had a big game on offense for her team. She contributed 13 points.

"Strong defensive play was the key to this win. The girls pulled together and put forth effort to get this win," Sillesky said.

Lady Eagles scorers: Abbott - 13 points, Sillesky - 6 points, Queen - 6 points, Morrison - 6 points and Heather Brady - 2 points.

Riverview will play host to Jasper Middle School at 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 24.
