Lifting his tiny arms over his head, 3-year-old Preston Price screeched with joy as he jumped into Santa’s lap Friday night.

“I want a great big, yellow fire truck,” he said with a smile that stretched across his face.

Price was one of hundreds of children and adults who enjoyed Dawsonville’s annual Christmas celebration, which began with the lighting of a tree outside city hall.

Price was ready for Christmas season to begin.

“I saw Santa,” he said.

So did Kentley Lea, 5, who made sure St. Nick will remember her on Christmas Eve by wearing an elf costume.

Lea wasn’t sure what she wanted Santa to bring her, but was ready to tell him how good she’s been this year.

Elvis, also known as tribute artist Damon Hendrix, serenaded the crowd with a few holiday favorites.

Children then helped the rock ‘n’ roll legend light the tree, much to the delight of the crowd, which sipped hot chocolate and cider provided by the Pool Room and Appalachian Community Bank.

Mrs. Claus also joined in the celebration.

The city of Dawsonville kicks off the Christmas season each year with the event and offers complimentary photos with Santa.

“I want to thank everyone for coming out this year for our tree lighting,” said Mayor Joe Lane Cox, dressed for the occasion in a red felt Santa hat.

“Thank you all and Merry Christmas.”
