Wrestlers have bright future

POSTED: December 27, 2011 4:30 p.m.

The Dawson County Middle School wrestling program has a bright future according to Head Coach Thomy Edwards.

The Tigers wrestled their last match of the season with White County on Dec. 15. Although Dawson County lost the match, Edwards complimented his grapplers for a fine season.

The Tigers only wrestled three eighth graders this season. They were Christian Williams, Cameron Hudson and Michael Dudley.

"This year was a growing and learning year," Edwards said. "Next year I feel that the wrestlers coming back have a great chance of being number one in their weight classes.

"We will have a lot more experienced team next season. That extra year will help us place better in the tournament and win more dual matches. I could tell from the beginning of the year to the end, how each wrestler became more comfortable on the mat," he added.

Against White County, Tigers Josh Poe and Caine Wells both won by a first period pin over their opponents.

Michael Dudley pinned his adversary in 10 seconds to pick up much needed team points.

"We had a couple of heart breakers against White. Cameron Hudson, Jacob Sinclair and Jordan Hannah wrestled great matches, but each one of them came up short in the end and lost," Edwards said.

"We got better as a team from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. We had a lot of first year wrestlers that improved greatly," he added.
