The game was over early as the Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team opened the season with a rout of visiting Tallulah Falls, 61-24, last Tuesday night.

Dawson jumped out to an insurmountable 16-2 lead over the overmatched Lady Indians.

By halftime the Lady Tigers opened up a 28-8 advantage and never looked back. It gave a chance for Lady Tiger Head Coach Steve Sweat to empty his bench in the second half.

Sophomore Jessi Phillips led all Dawson scorers with 13 points. Cheyenne Bennett and Christian Daniel chipped in 9-points each in the win.

Also scoring for Dawson County were Morgan Bennett with 5 points, Kimberly Wallace with 4 points, Alyss Woody had 3 points, and Natalie Parker, Erin Gordon, Kaitlyn Pain, Madelyn Walters and Morgan Huber contributed 2 points each.

“It is always great to open up with a win,” said Sweat. “We now must get back to work because we play AAAAA North Forsyth next Tuesday at North.”

Results of the team’s match-up with North Forsyth were not available as of press time.

Sweat also commented, “Thanks to everyone who came out to support us. We are a team with no seniors. Our oldest four players are juniors. I think we only have two players old enough to drive. The girls are working hard and we will do our best to come out on top in every game.”

Destinee Johnson led Tallulah Falls with 10 points.
