The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team won its first game of the season, 46-18, over Riverview Middle last week.

The Tigers held a commanding 19-9 halftime lead over the Eagles in a game played at Riverview, Nov. 8.

Dawson put the game away in the fourth quarter after the team outscored Riverview 17-2, to take the 28 point win.

"We played well," said Dawson Middle head coach Jonathan Tinsley. "It was a good game to see what we need to work on and fix. We are going to use it as a building block to get ready for next week."

The Tigers will travel to Jasper to play Pickens Middle at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

Dylan Bramblett led all Tigers scorers with 16 points.

Brody Chester also scored in double digits with 13 points.

Rounding out the offense were: Conor Woodbury, 9 points, Cole Mulberry, 4 points, Tyler Palmer, 3 points and Jeff Drew, 2 points.

For Riverview, Alan Sanchez scored 11 points to lead all Eagles on offense.

Also scoring for Riverview were: Mateo Fritz, 3 points, Cole Hoppal and Tyler Butler contributed 2 points each.

"I felt our eighth graders showed improvement over last year, and will continue to get better as the season goes along," said Riverview Middle coach Phil Branson. "They are playing better as a team. I thought Alan Sanchez had a great game at point (guard) and Mateo Fritz was very aggressive on defense.

"It is always fun to play our cross-county rivals, and we look forward to our game later this season," he added.

Riverview will not play again until Nov. 29 when the team will host Pickens Middle.
