Seventh grade Tigers take down Eagles, 35-7

Dawson County Middle School seventh grade boys basketball coach Steven Moates' team was impressive in a 35-8 clobbering of Riverview Middle last week.

The Tigers pitched a shutout in the first half of the Nov. 8 contest, holding a 19-0 lead.

Things didn't get much better for the Eagles in the third quarter. The team trailed 27-1 after three quarters.

Nine players scored for the Tigers in the game. Nick Murphy led all Dawson players with 7 points. Murphy was followed by teammates: Colin Glover, Hunter Lebaron and Sawyer Smith with 6 points each. Dorian Richards, Austin Young, Parker Cantrell, Joseph Cronan and Corey Hammond added 2 points each in the win.

"It was good to open the season with a win," Moates said. "The guys have been working hard at practice and it was good to see them execute in the game. Of course, we have several things we need to work on and I'm looking forward to improving over the season."

Dawson will play at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Pickens Middle.

Riverview will not play again until Nov. 29 with a game at Pickens Middle.
