POSTED: October 12, 2011 4:00 a.m.

Dawson County Parks and Recreation, along with the Dawson County School System will be joining with National Geographic Kids, the National Recreation and Parks Association and Let's Jump to break the record for the most people doing jumping jacks.

In order to break the record, more than 20,000 people worldwide need to participate for one minute during a 24-hour time frame designated by Let's Jump. The time frame has been designated as 8 a.m. Oct. 12.

According to park and recreation, the school system was quick to accept the invitation in August. Black's Mill, Kilough, Riverview and Robinson elementary schools, as well as Dawson and Riverview middle schools will all be taking part in the event.

The event aims to get kids outdoors and live an active, healthy lifestyle. It also hopes to inspire children to exercise by showing them that exercise can be fun.
