Weather played havoc with Dawson County Middle School's football game at home with Fannin County last week. The game was called at halftime due to lightning and thunderstorms approaching the area.

The game did not turn out as planned for the Tigers, as the team dropped a 28-0 decision to a strong Rebels team.

The game will not be made up and will count as an official game, according to coaches.

Dawson finished the regular season with a 2-3 overall record.

More importantly Coach Thomy Edwards' team will play in the Mountain League Playoffs against Fannin County in a rematch Thursday in Blue Ridge. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

"Our offense didn't do as well as we hoped," Edwards said. "We turned the ball over when we finally did establish a drive. It just wasn't good.

"We could not stop Fannin's great running back. We had players in position to tackle him but just couldn't bring him down."

The Tigers must now look ahead to the team's rematch with the team.

"Our offensive line must block well for our skill people and defensively we got to be able to run to the ball and tackle well," Edwards said.

"If we can control the ball and tackle Fannin's good running back and quarterback we have a chance at winning," he added.
