Riverview Middle School is off to a rough start this football season. The Eagles fell to 0-3 with a 36-6 loss to Clear Creek Middle School last week in Dawsonville.

The only touchdown for Riverview came on a 60-yard kickoff return by Mateo Fritz.

Head Coach Mark Thomason and his staff decided to change the offense for the game.

The coaches decided to throw the ball more instead of relying on the running backs to find holes to run through.

"All year we have struggled with giving our quarterback and running backs enough time to find holes, or to even throw the ball, so we took all of our plays and put them into the ‘Pistol offense' this week. We threw the ball more this week than we ever have in a game the entire four years I have been at Riverview," Thomason said.

Quarterback Tyler Butler had a good game throwing the football for Riverview. Butler had just shy of 100 yards passing. Many of his throws found receivers who just couldn't hang on to the pass.

"We dropped seven balls with no one around us that could have led to big plays," Thomason said.

Eagles running back Alan Sanchez caught four passes for 46 yards on offense.

Defensively the Eagles had a good game out of lineman Brenden Capps. Capps led the team in tackles and recorded a sack on the Clear Creek quarterback.

Thomason also commented on the good defensive play of Jake Booth, Sanchez and Fritz.

"We did force two turnovers, but we are still missing too many tackles and our linemen are getting driven off the ball. But I do see some improvement overall," Thomason said.

"Overall, even though we lost, I thought we played with a lot more heart and fight than we did last week," he added.

Next, the Eagles will travel to Fannin County to face a very tough Rebels team.

Fannin defeated Jasper Middle School in triple overtime last week.

Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. Thursday in Blue Ridge.
