Man pleads guilty to local charges

Faces other counts in Lumpkin County fatal wreck

A local man awaiting trial on vehicular homicide charges in Lumpkin County has pleaded guilty to separate felony charges in Dawson County.

Appearing Sept. 7 before Superior Court Judge Andrew Fuller, Jeremy Todd Adams admitted his role in a February case in which he was charged with false imprisonment, interfering with a 911 call, simple battery and criminal trespass.

He received a 10-year sentence with four years to be served in state prison and the remaining six on probation, according to court records.

Two additional counts of burglary were dismissed at the prosecution's request.

Adams is being held at the Dawson County Detention Center awaiting transfer to Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

He also faces many charges in connection with a May 27 fatal collision in Lumpkin County, just north of the Dawson line.

According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, Adams crossed the centerline on Mill Creek Road and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by Ray Paul Koehn Sr.

Koehn died at the scene. His wife was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

State Patrol Sgt. G.R. Harper said Adams' blood alcohol level was above the legal limit at the time of wreck, which remains under investigation by the agency.

Adams was charged with driving under the influence, first degree homicide by vehicle and serious injury by vehicle.

Other charges included reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, tire requirements and safety restraint violation, state patrol officials said.

Adams has not been indicted in the vehicular homicide case.
