For the first time this season, Riverview Middle School head softball coach Jeff Compton said his team played up to its potential.

"It was very exciting to see the Riverview Eagles play like I know they can play," Compton said.

The Lady Eagles shut out cross-county rivals Dawson County Middle School, 12-0 in four innings Aug. 30. The game was called due to the mercy rule.

Both teams played evenly for the first two innings, but in the bottom half of the third Riverview exploded for five runs to take a 5-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles continued to pour on the offense as seven more players crossed the plate in the fourth inning for a 12-0 final score.

Riverview has now won both games against the Lady Tigers this season. The Lady Eagles pulled off an 18-12 win in the first game of the season.

"I believe the performance against Dawson Middle can be carried throughout the rest of this season and into the region tournament," Compton said.

Offensively the Lady Eagles had 12 hits in the game. Eight different players scored runs.

Getting multiple hits for Riverview were MaKaylee Kelley and Tabitha Morrison.

Morrison had a great game pitching with nine strikeouts in four innings.

"I thought all our girls played hard today," Compton said.

Reaching base for the Lady Tigers by way of walks were Brandy Torres, Brittany Griggs, Sara Shepard, Karlie Bearden and Jordan Tompkins.

Riverview moved to 2-4 on the season, while Dawson County Middle dropped to 0-6.

Both teams will take the field again this week. Riverview will travel to Fannin County, while Dawson County will play host to Pickens. Both games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday.
