Eagles prepare to battle rival

POSTED: August 23, 2011 4:21 p.m.

The Riverview Middle School Eagles are applying the final touches before playing its opening game of the season this Saturday against rival Dawson County Middle School.

The Eagles played in a jamboree last week in Blue Ridge against Fannin and Pickens counties. The scrimmage was the final chance for Head Coach Mark Thomason to take a look at his squad against different competition.

The scrimmage started with a match-up with host Fannin.

Offensively, the Eagles marched down the field and scored on a 40-yard run by Mateo Fritz.

"We moved the ball OK, but we had several blown assignments on the line up front," said Head Coach Mark Thomason.

Defensively, Riverview was led by Jake Booth and Harrison Adams.

After a short break, Riverview played its second scrimmage against Pickens County, who was fresh.

Once again, Fritz broke a long run for a touchdown of more than 45-yards, however, it was obvious the Eagles were out of gas.

Trey Maciolek made some nice plays on defense for the Eagles against Pickens.

"We are looking forward to the game against Dawson," Thomason said.

"Our kids really get pumped up for this game. All of the kids know each other and are friends with each other, so it makes for a big game," he added.

Thomason said that he hopes to work with his team on blocking and tackling before the team's big game Saturday.

The Tigers will face the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Dawson County High School.
