There is still $10,000 in cash up for grabs in the annual Dawson County Chamber of Commerce reverse raffle.

According to Chamber President Linda Williams, there are still several tickets available for the raffle.

"There are many tickets remaining, which increases the odds of winning," Williams said.

In the past, the chamber has printed 350 tickets, but cut that to 300 this year.

Last year's winner, Dawsonville City Councilman James Grogan, said he still can't believe that he won.

"It was kind of surreal, that's about all I can say," Grogan said. "I didn't even believe I'd won when it happened."

In the reverse raffle, tickets are drawn one by one from a drum, but unlike most raffles, the last ticket drawn is the winner.

"Last year it came down to me and one other lady," Grogan said. "And when they pulled her ticket and called her name, I actually thought she had won for just a minute."

In addition to the cash raffle, ticket holders are also eligible for door prizes donated by local businesses. Every 25th ticket drawn wins a prize valued at $100 or more. The chamber accepts all major credit cards, cash and checks.

Tickets cost $100 each and are on sale at the chamber office, Roger Slaton State Farm and by any of the chamber's board of directors.

One ticket admits two guests to the drawing party, which begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Lakeview Center. Heavy appetizers are included and a cash bar will be available.

Proceeds from the raffle support many chamber initiatives throughout the year.

For more information or to purchase a raffle ticket, call the chamber at (706) 265-6278.
