Local convenience store sells $50K lottery prize

POSTED: August 3, 2011 4:00 a.m.

Neighborhood Convenience Store on Hwy. 9 in Dawsonville recently sold a winning $50,000 prize ticket in the Georgia Lottery game Jumbo Bucks Classic.

"Oh wow," said store owner Andy Sam when he learned he had sold the winning ticket. "That's very, very good."

The winner who claimed the prize is Jessica Cardell, 18, of Dawsonville.

Neighborhood Convenience Store also sold a winning $150,000 prize from the instant ticket Giant Jumbo Bucks in 2010.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K Program.

More than 1.3 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
