Head Coach Mark Thomason's Riverview Middle School football team traveled to Flowery Branch last week to participate in a Fellowship of Christian Athletes passing camp.

Several local middle school teams took part in the event. The Eagles were able to throw against White County, Union County, West Hall, East Hall, South Hall, Putnam County, Flowery Branch and Chestatee middle schools during the event.

"The passing camp went really well," Thomason said. "Our guys really held their own throughout the day. I was really pleased with the play of Harrison Adams our tight end, running back Mateo Fritz and quarterback Tyler Butler."

The ability to see different defensive secondary schemes didn't seem to bother the Eagles as the day went on, according to Thomason.

"We knew we would see a lot of athletes in one day, but our guys really played hard and none of the teams ran away from us," he said.

Defensively, Thomason praised the play of several of his players.

"I thought defensive back Cole Hoppel made a couple of nice interceptions and Alan Sanchez also had a couple of nice picks. Others having a solid day were Jake Booth, Blake Wood, Evan Jennings, Jonathon Steele and Phillip Pinion."

Not only did the skill players get a workout, but the Eagles took several of their offensive and defensive linemen to camp.

"I was really proud of our linemen on Thursday," Thomason said. "Trey Maciolek finished in the top four in one of the events and our guys won the tire flip relay."

The Eagles traveled to White County yesterday for their last passing camp of the summer.

Regular season practice will begin Aug. 1 in preparation for the team's opening scrimmage game Aug. 18 against Fannin County.
