Seven-year-olds bow out of Dizzy Dean

The Dawson County Dizzy Dean 7-year old All-Star team was eliminated from state tournament play recently in Canton.

The team, coached by Billy Smith, won its first game of the tournament against Hall County before losing its next two games to Hobgood and Ringgold to put them out of the double elimination tournament.

The Dawson County team earned its way into the state tournament with a second place finish in the District 6 tournament June 17-20 in Jackson County.

Despite losing its first game of the tournament, the team bounced back through the losers bracket before being defeated in the championship game to the Hall County Elite.

Members of this year's team were: Elijah Benson, Travis Dickey, Andrew Gilstrap, Max Grant, Braedon Hubbard, Martin Johnson, Aidan Kudlas, Garrett Mooney, Adrien Moore, Nicholas Mullinax, Jonathan Read and Jalen Smith.
