A 49-year-old man was arrested last week, less than a day after authorities received reports that a downtown business had been burglarized.

Randy Lee Mooney of Davis Road was identified as the lone suspect after Dawson County Sheriff's investigators showed jail employees a video surveillance photo of him at the crime scene.

"He was immediately identified by one of our officers," said Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten. "This is a good example of our departments working together and communicating to solve crimes."

Mooney is being held without bond at the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center.

He has been charged with burglary, two counts of entering auto and criminal trespass.

Mooney, who according to Georgia Department of Corrections records has a long list of burglary convictions from both Dawson and Forsyth counties since 2000, is also charged with a parole violation.

Wooten said Mooney was taken into custody about 6 p.m. July 6 after he admitted to breaking into Amicalola Gardens on Hwy. 9 South sometime after midnight the day before.

According to arrest warrants, Mooney used tools found on the premises to pry open a side door and a cash register inside the business.

About $300 was missing from the business, according to reports. That money has not been recovered.

Wooten said Mooney also took a GPS system and an iPod from a truck at the business, both of which were found in his vehicle.
