Summer baseball over for some

Several age groups just completed their respective Dizzy Dean All-Star tournaments over the last few weeks. Teams representing Dawson County play in District 6. Both softball and baseball All-Stars did a great job at their tournaments, according to Dawson County Parks and Recreation.

Two teams qualified for the State Dizzy Dean tournament. Both the 7-year old and 8-year old baseball teams will play in the state tournament this month.

The 7-year old team began play in Canton Saturday. Scores were unavailable as of press time.

The 8-year old team from Dawson County will begin play July 8 in Whitfield County.

For all other Dawson County Parks and Recreation baseball teams, the season has recently ended.

The 9-10 year old baseball team played in Jackson County on June 23-25. The team was coached by Jay Pearson. This year's team included: Tate Adkins, Branden Alewine, Tate Allen, Noah Bearden, Cooper Freeman, Christopher Garrett, Riley Graham, Logan Kimbro, Austin Lawson, Cole Pearson, Zachary Prichard and Glenn Worley.

Dawson County's 11-12 year old baseball team played in the District 6 tournament in Lumpkin County on June 23-25.

This year's team was coached by Tim Waddell. Team members were: Jacob Adams, Drew Barnes, Winston Davis, Trey Dixon, Jordan Hannah, Joshua Morley, Brandon Mullinax, Derek Nutt, Joshua Poe, Colton Purves, Robert Rarick and Jordan Waddell.

The 13-14 year old all-star team was coached by Marcus Cobb and played its tournament in Jefferson.

Members of this year's team were: Hunter Glover, Trip LeMay, Eric Leonard, Jessie Mitchell, Brandon Monkus, Tyler Palmer, Israel Tatum, Andrew Thomason, Tucker Welling, Conor Woodbury, Logan Wilson and Levi Wright.

"We are very proud of all the Dawson County All-Stars that competed," said Dawson County Park and Recreation Athletic Director Kristi Creegan.
