Ethan Brown is the latest Tiger to sign an athletic scholarship to play football in college.

Brown signed with the University of The Cumberlands, located in Willamsburg, Ky., during a ceremony held in the media center at Dawson County High School on April 27.

“The school has a good football program,” Brown said. “But more importantly, I chose the school because of its academic program.”

The Patriots play in the NAIA Mid-South Conference under Head Coach John Bland.

Bland recently completed his fifth season at the school. The team finished with a 7-4 overall record, but were 5-1 in conference play. The team captured a fourth straight conference championship.

The Cumberlands were eliminated from the playoffs by Saint Xavier University in the first round.

Other teams in the conference are Shorter, Faulkner, Union, Belhaven and Bethel.

“The Cumberlands is a good fit for Ethan. It has a strong Christian environment with a good football program,” said Dawson County High School Head Football Coach Jeff Lee.

“It’s going to be tough to replace Ethan because during his career he did so many things for us. Ethan played quarterback, defensive back, wide-receiver, running back, punted and kicked off for us. Those are a lot of things to replace. He works very hard and I’m glad that he will realize a dream of playing at the next level,” Lee said of his all-purpose player.

Brown was a four-year starter at Dawson County High School.

He received All-State honors as a defensive back. Brown led the Tigers in tackles on defense and receiving yards on offense.

“His father and I are very excited and proud of Ethan. The academics up there are great and he is going to a good football program. All we ask of him is to give it all you have. It will be a new beginning for him,” said his mother, Tina Brown.

“I chose The Cumberlands over other schools because I really liked the campus and the fact the football program is really good. This should be interesting and I’m looking forward to it,” Brown said.

Ethan also played basketball and soccer at Dawson County High School.

He is the son of Frank and Tina Brown.
