Sharpshooter ‘All-American’

POSTED: March 22, 2011 11:01 p.m.

Judges at the NCAA Rifle Championships on March 12-14 held several marksmen and women in the highest regard.

One of the competitors happened to be Dawsonville’s Mattie Brogdon — a junior at Texas Christian University — who was tabbed an All-American following the event.

The championships were held at Columbus State University at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center on campus and the U.S. Army Marksmanship unit at Fort Benning.

Brogdon was among 48 competitors from around the country selected for the championships.

Following the March 12 event, she was named to the second team in both smallbore and air rifle categories.

Her team, the TCU Horned Frogs, had an undefeated regular season and a third place finish at the 2010 championships.

They finished third at the 2011 event.

During an NCAA competition in October 2010, Brogdon got a near perfect score when she and her teammates bested the No. 1 ranked school.

During the match, she scored a 592 — with 600 being a perfect score. It was an all-time high score for Brogdon.

She was also named athlete of the week Oct. 26 at Texas Christian University.
