Tigers win first home match of season

Pick up second place at Rumble on the Ridge

The Dawson County Tiger wrestling team rolled over visiting Clarkston High School on Dec. 21 to win the team’s first home match of the season. The Tigers lost only one weight classification to come away with a huge 74-4 win.

 

The match was the last match before the annual Amicalola Classic that will take place Dec. 30-31.

 

Several Tiger wrestlers won by way of pin, including: David Wood (135); Charlie Short (140); Preston Adams (152); Evan Kells (171); and Josh Gee (189).

Casey McGinnis (130) won in a major decision over Clarkston’s Abdollahiomur Katun by a 13-3 score.

 

Dawson wrestlers Anthony Underwood (145) and Eric Palmore (215) dominated their opponents with 15-5 and 14-1 scores respectively to pick up major decisions.

 

The Tigers also got valuable points by way of forfeit by Clarkston. Picking up points were: Anthony Underwood (103); Drew Thomason (112); James Evans (119); Timothy Blythe (125); and Kyle Maciolek (160).

 

At the Rumble on the Ridge tournament, held Dec. 11 at Fannin County High School, head coach Arron Haynes’ team picked up a second-place finish.

 

Dawson picked up wins over Towns County, Copper Basin, Tenn., and Stephens County before suffering their only loss at the hands of host Fannin County.

 

The Rebels won the tournament championship.

 

Following is a breakdown of each match for the Tigers.

 

The Tigers won their first match by a 48-33 score over Towns. Accumulating points by pin were: David Wood (135); Preston Adams (152); Kyle Maciolek (160); and Joseph Toal (171).

 

All other points in the match with Towns came by way of forfeit.

 

The Tigers then faced a tough Fannin County team.

 

Dawson defeated the Rebels earlier in the year, but were a little short handed this time because of sickness to several Tiger wrestlers.

 

Dawson lost the match, 48-36.

 

Pinning their opponents were: Anthony Underwood (103); David Wood (135); Charlie Short (140); Andrew Lovingood(145); Preston Adams (152); and Tobie Lumpkin (215).

 

Haynes’ team then wrestled a tough AAA-school in Stephens County.

 

The Tigers came away with a close 42-39 victory over the Indians.

 

David Wood (135), Andrew Lovingood (145), Preston Adams (152), Evan Kells (171) and Tobie Lumpkin (215) all won by way of a pin.

 

Also picking up points by forfeits were Levi Pressley (130) and Lon Greer III (140).

 

The results for the team’s match against Copper Basin were not available as of press time.

 

The Amicalola Classic will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at Dawson County High School.
