Junior varsity boys win thriller

POSTED: December 21, 2010 4:30 p.m.

For the second consecutive game the junior varsity boys’ basketball team pulled out a win in thrilling fashion.

Tied at 44-44, with visiting Hebron Christian, and time winding down in the fourth quarter, Gunnar Armstrong dribbled the full length of the floor and made the winning shot as the buzzer sounded to end the game.

Dawson won 46-44.

“I had all the confidence in the world that Gunnar would make that shot,” said Head Coach Wes Greer. “When he brought the ball down the court he looked at me and I knew he wanted to be the one to finish the game.”

Hebron held its largest lead of the game with five minutes left in the third quarter at 32-22.

The Tigers went on a 13-0 run to take a 35-32 lead into the final quarter.

The Lions tied the score with 13 second remaining on two free throws by Ryan Thomas that led to the amazing game-winning shot by Armstrong.

“It was another great game and a great finish for this team. They are working hard in practice and it is showing on the court,” Greer said.

The Tigers also picked up a 9-point win over Fellowship Christian School Saturday. Details of the game were not available at press time.

Dawson’s game with North Forsyth, scheduled for Friday, was canceled due to weather and will most likely not be rescheduled.

The team will be back in action at 7 p.m. Jan. 4 at Woody Gap. The junior varsity Tigers are currently 4-0 on the season.
