Seventh graders win two in a row

POSTED: December 21, 2010 4:30 p.m.

The Dawson County Middle School seventh grade boys’ basketball team has rebounded to win its last two games.

Head Coach Steven Moates’ Tiger team recently picked up wins over Gilmer County, 23-20, and Riverview, 21-4.

The team currently has a 2-3 record heading into the Christmas break.

The Tigers game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 16 against Pickens County Middle School will be rescheduled. The game was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Tigers pulled out a close 3-point win against Gilmer County Middle School on Dec. 4.

“Our guys played hard all four quarters,” Moates said.

“We had fewer turnovers in the second half and that made the difference in the game,” he added.

Brody Chester had a game-high 11 points in the Tiger victory. He was followed in the scoring column by Tyler Palmer with six points, Conor Woodbury added four points, and Brandon Monkus contributed two points.

Dawson pulled off a huge 17 point win over cross-county rival Riverview on Dec. 10.

Chester, once again, was the Tiger leading scorer with 10 points.

Also scoring against the Eagles were Dillard Blanton with six points, Tyler Palmer added three points, and Conor Woodbury scored two points.

“It was a good win,” Moates said. “The guys have been working hard at practice and it’s good to see that the hard work is paying off.”

The Tigers will play again on Jan. 7. The team will host Clear Creek Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
