The Dawson County Middle School eighth grade girls’ basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Fannin County, 25-24, Nov. 18 in Dawsonville.

The Lady Tigers had a 1-point lead with 10 seconds remaining in the game.

Fannin forced a Dawson turnover and with 1.5 seconds left, the Lady Tigers committed a foul.

Fannin hit both free throws to come away with the victory.

The Lady Rebels began the game in a full court press. Dawson just couldn’t seem to settle down and control the ball. The Lady Tigers turned the ball over several times leading to an 18-13 lead for Fannin at the half.

Dawson came back with a zone press of its own in the third quarter.

“Our zone press proved to be very effective and we held Fannin to only one point in the quarter,” said Head Coach Mike Cox.

Despite holding Fannin to only one point, the Lady Tigers only managed two points in the third.

The score was 19-15 in favor of Fannin after three periods of play.

“We played our hearts out. Our biggest problem is that we are playing too much like individuals and not enough as a team. This has got to change,” Cox said.

Sheyenne Seabolt led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Cassidy Lecours added five points, Jordan Seppenfield and Celeste Chism contributed two points each.
