Dawson County Arts Council kicks off membership campaign

POSTED: October 19, 2008 5:03 a.m.

Dawson County Arts Council and the Bowen Center for the Arts recently announced that it is membership 2009 kick off time.

Letters and progress reports have been sent to both current and prospective members.

As a non-profit organization, Dawson County Arts Council and the Bowen Center for the Arts depends on the support and generosity of the Dawson County area residents and businesses to bring quality artistic experiences to the area.  The council is confident that the area will respond again. The fall campaign is the only annual request for membership and support.

These are exciting times for the council and the Bowen Center for the Arts. More than 12,000 people have attended performances, art shows, classes or festivals presented by the council during 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Performances have included Patsy Cline, Some Enchanted Evening, The Sock Hops, Banks and Shane, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged, and the council is proud to announce that more entertainment is coming to town.

The fundraisers, “‘Art in the Garden” festival and “Lunch at an Artful Table,” attract people throughout the area.

Smaller groups have gathered at the Bowen Center for the Young Performers Series and the Bowen Café Series.

Hannah Chapman’s concert will continue the Young Performers Series in October.

Dawson County Arts Council has continued its commitment to Dawson County Schools in order to provide support for art, drama and music departments.

Student art has been displayed at the Bowen Center, as well as a Junior Internship and a Middle School After School Program that is being developed.

Art classes are offered for all ages, and summer art camps fill the center each summer.

Twelve high quality art shows will be displayed in 2008.

New, exciting visual exhibits are planned for 2009.

Bowen Center has previously been host to the Southeastern Watercolor Society and will again host the prestigious event in 2010.

Dawson County Arts Council continues to be the sponsor of Dawson Community Chorale, which will present Brahms “Requiem” on the evening of Nov. 1.

More information on membership and upcoming events can be found at www.dawsonarts.org or by calling (706) 216-ARTS (2787).
