ASK THE EXPERTS

Tatum Trail closed for repair

POSTED: October 13, 2010 3:55 p.m.

Tatum Trail in northwestern Dawson County will be closed Oct. 20-22 while crews replace a pipe damaged by recent flooding.

“We’re asking motorists to avoid Tatum Trail on these days if they do not absolutely need to be on this road,” said David Headley, director of Dawson County Public Works.

He said construction crews will make every attempt to keep one lane of traffic open during the repairs.

The pipe blew out during flooding from a rain storm this summer.

Turnalay Branch Road, which is part of the same stream line, was also affected and will be repaired at a later date.

A hydrologic study determined the single culvert on Tatum Trail needed to be replaced by three, 60 inch pipes.

Funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will cover the repair costs, Headley said.

“There should be no expense for the taxpayers,” he said.

Headley suggests drivers use Keith Evans Road as a detour.
