The Dawson County High School varsity softball team finished its regular season with a loss to Fannin County, 2-0 on senior night, before rebounding for a 6-4 win over Banks County last week. The Lady Tigers regular season record is 11-11-1.

The team began the Region 8-AA tournament Monday in Jefferson.

Dawson County played Oglethorpe County on Monday. If the Lady Tigers secure a win in that game the team will return on Tuesday to play host Jefferson.

Scores were not available at press time.

The tournament will continue with games on Thursday and Saturday of this week.

Tuesday was senior night at Jack Waldrip Stadium in Dawsonville.

Head Coach Jimmy Pruett honored seniors Callie Pruett, statistician, Cheyenne Bennett, Katie Pulley and Sydney Crumley.

“All these players have been a big part of our program and will be sorely missed,” Pruett said.

Fannin scored a run in the top of the first inning on two errors by the Lady Tigers. The Lady Rebels added another run in the sixth inning on two walks and two hits to secure the 2-0 win.

Jenna Abbott pitched a tremendous game for Dawson. She struck out 12 batters, while giving up six hits.

The Lady Tiger offense was stagnant with only four hits. Shortstop Gracie Hovan contributed two of those hits, the other hits were by Abbott and Crumley.

On Wednesday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Homer for a game with the Banks County Lady Leopards. Dawson came out on top with a 6-4 victory.

Bennett pitched a complete game to get the win.

Dawson took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

The Lady Tigers took advantage of five Lady Leopard errors to score five runs in the inning.

Carley Gilreath led off the inning with a double and later scored. Kimberly Wallace, Crumley, Abbott and Hovan all crossed home before the final out was recorded.

The Lady Tigers scored their final run in the sixth inning.

With one out, Wallace singled and crossed home on an error from a ball hit by Morgan Huber.

Offensively, Dawson managed seven hits in the contest.

Abbott and Hovan led the offensive attack with two hits apiece.
