Head Coach Jimmy Pruett’s Varsity Lady Tigers softball team picked up a win and a loss last week. Dawson defeated East Hall, 8-0, last Tuesday, before losing to #7-ranked Union County, 2-0.

Both games were Region 8-AA match-ups. The Lady Tigers are currently 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the region.

Dawson catcher Kimberly Wallace set the table early for Dawson County against East Hall. Wallace led off the game with a hit and came around to score. The score was the beginning of eight runs tallied by Dawson.

Jenna Abbott pitched and notched the win for the Lady Tigers.

“We played well against East Hall,” Pruett said. “Jenna pitched a good game and Kim was on base all afternoon. I thought our defense was solid.”

With the loss, East Hall fell to 0-8 on the year.

On Thursday the team traveled to Blairsville to face a very good Union County Lady Panther team. Union picked up a hard fought 2-0 win over the Lady Tigers.

With the win, Union moved to 9-1-1 with their only loss coming to 3-time state champion Buford early in the season.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Union pushed two runs across the plate.

“It was the first time all year that we couldn’t do the little things, like get a bunt down, and that really hurt us.

“We had several scoring chances, but couldn’t get the big hit. Jenna (Abbott) pitched a great game and very easily could have won the game. Union has a very good team,” Pruett said.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action this week.

Dawson will travel to Fannin County on Sept. 9 before returning home on Sept. 11 for a game with Banks County.

Both games are Region 8-AA contests and will start at 5:55 p.m.
