Dawson County Middle School Head Football Coach Frank Brown and his Dawson County Tiger Middle School team are hot.

Last Thursday the Tigers defeated Pickens County Middle School in a shutout 23-0.

The win was the third straight for the Tigers, after starting the season 0-2. The team currently has a 3-2 overall record.

Defense was the major story in the game. The Tigers have not allowed an opponent to score on them in the last eight quarters.

“Coach Edwards (Thomy) really has them on their game,” Brown said.

Gunner Armstrong scored the first touchdown for Dawson County. The extra point was no good, and the Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

The Tigers second score came with only 7-seconds remaining before halftime.

On fourth down, Jackson Putnam found Jacob Picklesimer on a 40-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion was good on a reception by David Chester.

Dawson held a commanding 14-0 lead at the half.

The Tigers started the second half with a big defensive stop, to get the ball back on offense.

Brown’s offense notched the team’s third touchdown on a quick pitch to Brandon Shaw. Shaw scored from 50-yards out on a great run.

“Our key players this week were the entire defensive unit,” remarked Brown. “We had 11 to the ball all afternoon.”

“Gunner Armstrong gets better every week. The special teams have also preformed well,” Brown said, praising his offense and special teams.

“I am very proud of what our team has accomplished this year. We went form 0-2 and turned things around. Now we are on a three game win streak. We have a great bunch of guys that believe in their teammates,” Brown said.

Dawson will travel to Jasper on Thursday. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
