The Dawson County High School varsity Lady Tigers softball team played its first game in eight days last Thursday. Despite the time off the Lady Tigers didn’t miss a beat and came away with a 9-1 victory against Rabun County.

Shortstop Gracie Hovan had a great day at the plate. Hovan connected on a 2-run homer in the first inning and added a triple in the sixth inning.

“Gracie really set the tone for us today,” said Head Coach Jimmy Pruett.

Sydney Crumbley also came up big offensively for the Lady Tigers.

Crumbley was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4.

Pitcher Cheyenne Bennett picked up the win, pitching a complete game and giving up only one run.

“The time off was tough, but we had plenty of time to work on some things we were struggling with,” Pruett said.

The Lady Tigers currently have a 2-2 record. The team will travel to Blairsville for a game against Union County this Thursday.

It will be a tough test for Pruett’s team. The #10-ranked Lady Panthers are currently 7-1-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Buford, current AA state champs, by a 3-2 score.
