Man drowns in home pool

Medical examiner: Death accidental

POSTED: August 4, 2010 4:00 a.m.

Authorities have ruled the July 29 drowning of a 34-year-old Dawson County man an accident.

John Paul Livaditis had been swimming in the pool at his home on Hickory Nut Trail, near Lake Lanier, when his mother found him unconscious in the water about 8 p.m., authorities said.

“She was able to pull him to the side of the pool, but he was still in the pool when emergency personnel arrived,” said Lanier Swafford, chief of Dawson County Emergency Services.

Livaditis was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

The exact amount of time he was under water has not been determined, though Swafford estimated “about 30 minutes.”

“He swam daily,” Swafford said. “Family and emergency staff attempted to revive him.”

The man’s body was turned over to the state medical examiner’s office, which ruled the drowning accidental, Swafford said.

Cremation Society of Georgia is in charge of the arrangments. As of Tuesday afternoon, funeral services had not been announced.

Attempts to reach the family were not successful.
