Four Racers qualify for state

The Dawsonville Racer Swim team competed in the Georgia Park and Recreation District 7 swim meet on Saturday, July 10 at the Lanier Aquatic Club in Gainesville. Dawsonville qualified fours swimmers for the state meet on July 23-24 in Tifton.

  

Qualifying for the state meet are Kaylee Barrett, Brooke Dare, Eve Perkins and Lauren Dare.

  

Barrett finished second in the 7-8-year-old backstroke with a time of 24.21. Winning the event was McKenzie Klinck of the Jefferson swim team with a time of 21.49.

  

Barrett also finished third in the 25-yard fly stroke with a time of 23.66.

  

The Racers qualified two swimmers in the 13-14 year old division.

  

Brooke Dare touched the wall in third place in the 50-yard backstroke. She finished the event with a time of 41.68. She also finished fifth in the 25-yard freestyle.

  

Perkins is also going to state after a third place finish in the very grueling 100-IM.

  

Perkins clocked a time of 1:39.22. In the 100-yard free, Perkins picked up a sixth place finish.

  

In the 15-18 year old girls division, Lauren Dare will compete at the state level in two events. She was runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (30.44) and third in the 50-yard backstroke (36.44).

  

“I couldn’t be more proud of these four swimmers,” said Head Coach Stephanie Morgan. “All our swimmers have improved and did well during district.”

  

Dawsonville had several other swimmers place in various events at the meet.

  

In the 25-yard freestyle for 7-8 year old girls, Hannah Gerrells placed sixth, Kara Starr eighth, and Maya Moers came in 10th.

  

Moers also finished ninth in the 25-yard backstroke.

  

In the girls 9-10 year old division, Anneka Byers came in 12th in the 25-yard freestyle and ninth in the 25-yard backstroke.

  

Emme Sillesky placed 11th in the 25-yard breaststroke and 13th in the 25-yard free style.

  

Jessica Applegate finished 11th in the 50-yard freestyle and eighth in the 25-yard fly. Adrienne Hilchie was eighth in the 100-yard IM and 13th in the 50-yard free.

  

Taylor Barrett placed seventh in the 50-yard breast stroke and ninth in the 50-yard fly in the girls 11-12 age group.

  

Eliza Sillesky picked up a seventh place finish in the 50-yard free and a fifth place in the 50-yard backstroke in the same age group.

  

In the girls 13-14 age group Courtney Hilchie picked up a sixth place finish in the 50-yard backstroke and a seventh place in the 50-yard free style. Megan Wells came in seventh in the 50-yard backstroke and 10th in the 50-yard free style.

  

Rebecca Bishop had strong races with a fifth place finish in the 50-yard backstroke and a sixth place finish in the breaststroke for the 15-18 year old girls group.

  

On the boys side in the 7-8 year old group, Logan Starr came in 10th in the 25-yard free and Hayden Starr finished 12th in the same event.

  

In the 9 and 10 year olds, Keylan Steffins picked up two 10th place finishes in the 25-yard free and 25-yard backstroke.

  

Aidan Davis came in 11th in the 25-yard free and Ben Moers finished fifth in the 25-yard fly.

  

Tyler Hilchie completed the 100-yard freestyle in fourth with a time of 1:32.26 in the boys 11-12 year old division.

  

In the same age group, Caine Wells picked up a fifth place ribbon in the 50-yard freestyle.

  

In the 15-18 year old age group, Zachary Gerrells placed high with a fourth place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 50-yard fly.

  

The Racers hosted a “Splash” meet July 17 at Veterans Memorial Park.

  

The Cornerstone School competed with Dawsonville at the meet.

  

All swimmers received a ribbon for their efforts.

  

Dawsonville will travel to Hunters Chase, except the state qualifiers, for a meet at 8 a.m. July 24.
