Riverview football remains undefeated

POSTED: October 5, 2008 5:03 a.m.

The Riverview football team continues to be on a roll.

Coach Mark Thomason's team moved to 4-0 on the season with a 16-6 victory over Jasper Middle School.

This week the team will host Union County in what should be a difficult game for the Eagles.

Kickoff will be at 5 p.m.

"Union is pretty good even though they are just 2-2," Thomason said.

The first half against Jasper was not very kind to the Eagles.

Jasper drove all the way down to the Eagle 5-yard line before the Riverview defense stiffened.

"We stepped up and turned them away on four straight plays. It was big for us," Thomason said about his defensive unit.

Offensively, the Eagles just couldn't get going in the first half. The team committed 2 turnovers by way of fumble.

The game was scoreless at halftime.

Riverview received the ball to start the second half.

The Eagles drove 65 yards before Riverview running back Bruce Clark broke off a 15-yard touchdown run.

Riverview went for the 2-point conversion.

Quarterback Tyler Dominy found Scott Zadernak in the end zone to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead.

The Eagles added another score at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Clark broke free, for his second touchdown, on a 10-yard run.

Once again, the Eagles went for two, because of an injury to their kicker. Dominy found Koby Rogers for a successful 2-point conversion.

The score stood at Riverview 16 and Jasper 0.

"On defense, Justin Sams and Zach Martin led the way. Our defense played strong all afternoon," said Thomason.

Jasper got its only score with less than two minutes remaining. A Jasper defender stripped an Eagle running back and took the fumble 70-yards for a touchdown.

Jasper's 2-point conversion was no good.

Riverview held a 16-6 lead.

An onside kick was unsuccessful. Cole Knight recovered for Riverview. Ending the game with a final score of 16-6, in favor of the Eagles.
