All-stars advance in tournament

The Dawson County Park and Recreation 7-year-old baseball team advanced to the state tournament, which continues through July 7 at Wills Park in Alpharetta.

  

The team finished in second place in the regional Dizzy Dean tournament held June 18-19 at Rock Creek Park in Dawsonville.

  

The 7-year-old team opened the tournament with a loss to Fannin County, but bounced back to defeat Hall County and Jackson County.

  

The team lost in the championship game to Fannin County, leaving them in second place.

  

In other tournament play, the 8-year-old baseball team lost its first two games and was eliminated from tournament play.

  

The 11- to 12-year-old baseball team finished in fifth place and will advance to the state tournament. Their tournament will also take place Wills Park in Alpharetta. The team won its first game over White County, but lost its second game to Jackson County.

  

The 11- to 12-year-old team came from back to defeat Union County, before losing to Commerce.
