Ladies have a new look

The Dawson County Lady Tiger basketball team has a new attitude and determination this summer. Coach Steve Sweats’ squad began summer workouts a day after Memorial Day with a fire in their eyes.

  

The team has a different look about them this summer. Playing several summer league games at Pickens County and Dobbs Creek Park already this summer, the Lady Tigers are playing really well. They have managed to pull off wins against higher classification opponents, winning six games and losing just two at Dobbs Creek in Cumming.

  

Sweat has been stressing fundamentals this summer and it has seemed to pay off.

  

“We have just learned enough plays to participate in the summer games,” Sweat said.

  

Twenty-two Lady Tigers, in grades 9-12, are playing this summer.

  

Led by seniors Jessi Phillips, Morgan Bennett and Natalie Parker, the team continues to improve each week, according to Sweat.

  

“All three provide good leadership and experience to all of the younger players,” Sweat said of his seniors.

  

Next week the team will travel to Georgia College in Milledgeville.

  

After that, the Lady Tigers will play several more scrimmage games before winding down for the summer.

  

“This is a great group of young ladies and athletes,” Sweat said.
