The Dawsonville Racers swim team will begin its season with a home meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park pool.

More than 59 swimmers are on the team this season for head coach Stephanie Morgan.

“This is a large group,” said Morgan. “They have been working really hard over the last two weeks.”

The team has been practicing from 9 to 11:50 a.m. Monday through Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park pool.

The practices are divided, with the 11-years-old and up practicing from 9 to 10 a.m. and ages 10 and under going from 10 to 10:50 a.m.

The Racers will have only two home meets this season.

The second one will be July 17.

The goal of the swim team is to offer a program that introduces young people to the fun and excitement of competitive swimming in a low-pressure environment.

Dawsonville will compete with other teams in the North Georgia area, as well as statewide competition through the Georgia Parks and Recreation Association.

Assisting Coach Morgan this season will be former Dawson County graduate Lindsey Brown and Dawson County High School student Sarah Dare.
