Soccer coach resigns

POSTED: June 1, 2010 4:30 p.m.

Rick Corwin has resigned from his head girls’ soccer coaching position at Dawson County High School.

Corwin will leave the program with a record of 16-13-3, against 12 playoff teams, and an Area 15 championship this past season. The year before the Lady Tigers finished in third place in the area.

“I leave behind a group of wonderful, hard-working and coachable young ladies,” said Corwin. “The nucleus of a strong team for years to come is set in place with some very supportive parents.”

Corwin will be returning to Henry County to teach at Woodland High School in Stockbridge.

“I am leaving Dawson County High School for a chance to teach Advanced Placement History again. I am certified in two AP subjects, and wish to teach them again. When I got an offer to return to the county in which I live, to work (for) several old friends, to teach AP World History once again, I could not pass up the opportunity.”

Grady Turner, athletic director, praised Corwin for his time at the school.

“Coach Corwin came in and did a great job. He was able to win the school’s first area soccer championship. Rick really accomplished a lot and he will be missed. I wish him the best and that he will be successful at Woodland.” Turner said.

“I leave behind some wonderful colleagues and memories, and some wonderful students. I wish everyone at DCHS all the best, and thank them for two interesting and fulfilling years,” Corwin said.

Turner is actively searching for a replacement for Corwin.
