Riverview Middle School held its spring football scrimmage May 20. The event was a first for Riverview, as it had never held a spring game before.

In a hard fought battle the Royal team defeated the White team by an 8-0 score.

“I was really proud of how hard both teams competed. There were some mistakes on both sides of the ball, for both teams, but it was really good to see how hard they competed against each other,” said Head Coach Mark Thomason.

The game featured the match-up between the Royal and White teams.

Thomason evaluated both teams after the game and seemed really pleased with the effort of both squads.

“Jacob Lord had a big day on defense, as well as Chandler Lewis on defense. Both players made some good plays. I thought Saul Mendoza by far had the best day of all of the running backs and had a long touchdown run for the only score of the game,” Thomason said about the Royal team.

“Austin Martin played a good game at linebacker and made some good runs at fullback. Brandon Abbott played well at quarterback and Kagen Matthews had a couple of nice runs, but just couldn’t hold on to the ball. Turnovers beat the White team,” Thomason said of the White team’s play.

“The game went over better than could have been expected with the number of fans that showed up,” said Thomason. “I was very pleased with our progress for the spring and hope to use it as a spring board for next season.”
