John R. Sherwood

John R. Sherwood, 87, of Dawsonville, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born in Creston, Iowa, he lived most of his life in Dawson County.

Mr. Sherwood graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering and was employed with Swift & Co. for 18 years, after which he worked for ConFoods until his retirement.

A U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater.

His wife, Grace G. Sherwood, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his children, Barbara and Alva Almond of St. Louis, Mo., Patricia and Morris Pruett of Dawsonville, Mike and Patsy Sherwood of Dahlonega, Gloria and Marshall Gazaway of Gainesville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. David Smith and Tommy Panter officiating. Interment followed in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
