Dawson County Middle School Head Softball Coach Karen Spencer’s team continues to mow down it’s opposition, winning both of last week’s games in convincing fashion.

The Lady Tigers defeated Riverview, 18-0, last Tuesday and followed it up with a win over a talented Gilmer County team by a 9-0 score.

Dawson will be the #1 seed going into the end of year tournament this Saturday at Roper Park in Jasper.

Gilmer will be the #2 seed in the tournament.

Against cross-county rival, Riverview, it looked like the game would be cancelled due to lightning. The game was delayed for 30 minutes in the bottom of the first inning, but resumed when it was evident that the bad weather had passed.

Lady Tiger pitcher Jenna Abbott dominated play from the mound.

Abbott finished with 12 strikeouts. The game was called in the fourth inning due to the “mercy rule.”

Numerous Dawson County Middle School players contributed in the rout.

Carly Gilreath had a single and walked twice. Kenna Seitz hit two singles and was walked twice. Gracie Hovan hit a triple and two doubles. Abbot hit two doubles and was walked twice. Natalie Burt hit two singles. Megan Matthews hit a single and walked twice. Savanna Estes hit two singles. Martie Rogers banged out a double. Hannah Porter reached base with two singles and Morgan Gaddis hit a single during the offensive outburst.

On Friday, Gilmer County entered the contest with a 6-1 record. The team’s only loss came against Pickens County earlier in the season.

“This was our toughest competition all year,” Spencer said. “We struggled early because of their pitcher. After seeing her one time through the line-up we hit her pretty hard in the third inning, batting around.”

Abbott was once again dominant from the mound. She struck out 13 Lady Bobcats.

The team currently has a 9-0 record, with a game today against Gilmer County in Ellijay.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
