The Dawson County Middle School football team won its first football game in the new school’s history last Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers came away with a 20-14 win over Clear Creek.

With the victory, Dawson’s overall record is 1-2.

Dawson County Middle School Head Football Coach Frank Brown was ecstatic over the win.

“We made some changes and kind of went to a two QB (quarterback) system, which worked well in the game. Gunner Armstrong, an eighth grader, is a good runner, and Jackson Putnam gives a great passing game,” said Brown.

Scoring for the Tigers was Will Anglin on a rushing play and Armstrong on a quarterback sneak.

“Coach Stephen Moates had a great game plan this week,” Brown said.

The defense was outstanding for Dawson County.

“Coach Thomy Edwards and the defense had another great day. The defense continued to play well. Brandon Shaw had a pick and ran it back for a score. The only real success they had was throwing the deep ball,” said Brown about his team’s defense

Brown also pointed out some areas in which his team must improve to be successful.

“We need to work on pass coverage, and we dropped to many balls on offense yesterday,” he said.

“I feel like the offense improves a little every week. I was very proud of the effort. We play Pickens next week at home. I expect a good contest,” he added.

The Tigers will travel to Fannin County Thursday for a game with the Rebels. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
