Dean Carlton Burt

Dean Carlton Burt, 85, of Demorest, died May 15, 2010.

  

Mr. Burt was a native of Dawson County.

  

He was co-owner and operator of Burt Brothers Tire and Alignment in Doraville from 1969 until 1983.

  

Upon his retirement, he moved to Lake Lanier near Buford Dam where he lived for many years.

  

He was a resident of Magnolia Hills Retirement Home for the last five years of his life.

  

Mr. Burt was an avid gardener throughout his life, who will be remembered for his beautiful roses, hydrangeas and prize-winning tomatoes.

  

He also enjoyed the restoration of antique cars and furniture.

  

He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church in Dawson County and was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during WWII.

  

Mr. Burt was the son of the late Alonzo and Nettie McClure Burt and was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ann Burt; son, Carlton Burt; daughter, Janet Burt; brothers, Clyde, Howard, Carl and Theo Burt; and a sister, Cleo Welch.

  

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Judy and Chris Jones, Joyce Elliott, all of Dahlonega; former wife, Helen Holtzclaw Burt of Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Winford and Laura Mae Burt of Dawsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Irene Harben of Dawsonville, Inez and Grady McGuire of Cumming; grandchildren, Chelsea, Kevin and Nathan Jones, all of Dahlonega; sisters-in-law, Golda Heard, Jewell Burt, both of Dawsonville, Lynn Burt of Dacula, Joyce Gann of Sautee; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 17 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with the Rev. Russell Burt officiating. Interment followed in the New Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery in Habersham County.

  

Flowers were accepted, as well as, donations made to: The Guest House Adult Day Alzheimer's Center, 320 Tower Heights, Gainesville, GA 30501 or to the Hospice of Northeast GA Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Gainesville, GA 30501.

  

Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega was in charge of the arrangements.
