POSTED: May 12, 2010 4:00 a.m.

Members of Etowah Masonic Lodge No. 222, Free and Accepted Masons, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 970, Dawsonville Lions Club and Dawson County Jaycees will be placing veterans memorial markers for this year’s Memorial Day in the city of Dawsonville on May 19.

The markers are placed to honor the deceased men and women who have served honorably in one of the branches of military service.

The veterans to be honored for the first time this year are Lloyd F. Vaughters, Howard E. Pruett and John R. Sherwood.

All three are World War II Veterans.

The markers can be seen around the old courthouse in downtown Dawsonville.

There will be 132 Dawson County Veterans remembered this Memorial Day with markers placed throughout town.

A Memorial Day service is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 31 at Veterans Park, Hwy. 9 North, Dawsonville.

Take a moment to pause this Memorial Day and remember all that the veterans have done for our freedom.
