Stoney Simmons

Stoney Simmons, 66, of Dawsonville, died April 20, 2010.

  

Born June 12, 1943 to the late Cecil "Bodig" and Mary Simmons, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

  

Stoney was a former deputy sheriff for Dawson County, a former commercial truck driver and worked as a trim carpenter until his retirement.

  

He was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and served on the board of directors for the Dawson County Farm Bureau.

  

His sisters, Lamour Bearden and Christine Reed; and a brother, Wallace Simmons, preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Melba Simmons of Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Roger Garrett, Pam Biddulph, Rebekah and Sean Donovan, all of Dawsonville; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Donald Reeves of Dawsonville; brothers and sister-in-law, Skeeter and Wynell Simmons, Sonny Simmons, Charles Simmons, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Mallory Garrett, Dylan Garrett, Macy Biddulph, Zachary Biddulph, Marley Biddulph, Isaiah Huff, Tristen Donovan, Isaac Huff, Iris Huff; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Grogan; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 23 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Martin and Joshua Mulkey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
