It wasn’t a “fun” week for Jimmy Pruett and his Lady Tiger softball team.

His squad had two chances to pull off wins last week; however, on both occasions they came up short.

Errors and the inability to execute on offense led to losses against Region 8-AA and ranked foe East Jackson, 2-0, and Union County, 3-2.

Against #3-ranked East Jackson mental errors cost the Lady Tigers the contest.

A botched double play with no outs in the fourth and a force out in the sixth cost the Lady Tigers two runs.

“Overall we didn’t play bad,” said Pruett. “We left 12 runners on base and we have to find a way to get them in.”

The game was tied entering the sixth inning. Dawson couldn’t find a way to score. The Lady Tigers out hit East Jackson 5 to 3, but just couldn’t push across a run.

“They are ranked third in the state, and have beaten a few 5A schools.

We can play with anybody. We just need to learn to win,” Pruett said.

In the Union County game Dawson dropped an 8-inning, 3-2 decision.

“We had so many chances to score it’s not funny. The fact that we can’t bunt killed us. We got one bunt down out of five,” remarked Pruett.

The Lady Tigers also had three errors in the game, but still had a chance to pull it out.

“We have to learn to win close games.

Sydney Cox threw a great game, and should have won,” Pruett said about his team.

The Lady Tigers also participated in a tournament in Adairsville over the weekend.

Dawson picked up wins over Murray County and Northwest Whitfield and lossed to LaFayette, Cedartown and Rockmart.

The Lady Tigers currenlty have a 5-6 record.

Dawson will travel to Oglethorpe County tomorrow before returning home next Tuesday to face Banks County.

The Oglethorpe game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., while the Banks County game is scheduled for a 5:55 p.m. first pitch.
